Learning Analytics in the Learning Technology Hub

Learning Analytics Support

The LT Hub offers learning analytics support to help you innovate new data and visualization technology, access and analyze data, and conduct research. If you need learning data and don’t know where to start, the LT Hub can help.

The Learning Data Committee

The Learning Data Committee (LDC) provides high-level strategic direction for learning analytics projects and practices at UBC. The committee also acts as the UBC Data Steward for learning data.

The Learning Analytics Project

The Learning Analytics Project (2017-2020) focused on three inter-related areas of activity: 1) engaging the UBC community, 2) exploring the ethical issues regarding the use of learning data, and 3) iteratively developing the technical and solution architecture needed at UBC.

Learning Analytics in the Faculties

Just as learning analytics is a diverse field of practice and research, it also takes many forms across UBC. There is an active and diverse community of teams and individuals who engage in learning analytics work across both campuses. Often situated within teams that offer instructional support, edtech guidance, and learning design. Learning analytics often occurs as an embedded part of many of UBC’s faculties.

The Faculty of Arts

The Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology (Arts ISIT) Learning Analytics team offers analytics and reporting services to Arts faculty and staff who are engaged in administrative processes.

Our services encompass analysis, reports, setup and orientations, consulting on existing data and solutions, and data analysis support within various domains. By leveraging our expertise, you can confidently navigate critical processes, make informed decisions, and enhance teaching and learning initiatives.

The Faculty of Science

The Skylight Team supports UBC Science departments and programs with data-driven decisions toward student success.

Skylight is working to analyze the use of teaching and learning data in UBC Science with the goal of providing faculty with resources and supporting departments and programs with data-driven decisions toward student success and research/evaluation projects related to teaching and learning.

The Faculty of Medicine

The Educational Technology Team has a number of projects underway, including those with a learning analytics focus.

We help collect and analyse learners’ clickstream data throughout specific assignments and modules, in order to help understand and optimise teaching and learning.

LAVA

The Learning Analytics and Visual Analytics community holds regular meetings where members share upcoming or current learning analytics (and visual analytics) projects.

MET Course: ETEC 543

ETEC 543:Understanding Learning Analytics is offered as a course in the Faculty of Education’s Master’s of Educational Technology, students in the MET program are introduced to the field of learning analytics.
